Now, who could forget their confident campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where they defeated Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka, earned them a top-eight finish and a spot in the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March 2025.

Trott’s coaching has been instrumental in Afghanistan’s success, and the ACB has recognized his outstanding contributions. His tenure began in July 2022, initially set for 18 months, but was extended by a year in January 2024. Under his guidance, Afghanistan has won 14 of 34 ODIs and 20 of 44 T20Is. While Trott will continue to lead the team, he will be absent for the Zimbabwe tour’s ODI leg due to personal reasons. In his stead, former players Hamid Hassan and Nawroz Mangal will take charge as head coach and assistant coach for the T20Is and Tests.
Trott’s coaching career began with a consultant role for Scotland during the 2021 T20 World Cup. As a player, he was a key figure in England’s away Ashes victory in 2010-11, scoring 3835 runs in 52 Tests at an average of 44.08. In ODIs, he accumulated 2819 runs at an average of 51.25, with four hundreds and 22 fifties.
